April Ross
April Ross is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball stars to capture medals at more than one Olympics. Alix Klineman is the newest Olympian and will join the team in Tokyo. Ross will also be hoping for her first Olympic medal. As she turns 39, it could be Ross' last chance to win the Olympic gold. Nevertheless she is confident that winning the gold medal is in reach. Ross through NBC Boston, said that when the team performs well or at all it could be able to win gold. "I'm also going to try a little luck." Ross was a Californian born in Costa Mesa, California in 1982. Her family lived in the area with her mother, father and younger sister. The athletic pursuits she pursued continued at Newport Harbor High School where she participated in several sports. She competed in basketball and track, in addition to her indoor volleyball exploits as a pre-collegiate athlete. But she clearly was an edge over the other players in this latter game. As per her biography, during high school she was a volleyball player as an outside hitter (middle blocker) as well as a the setter (outside blocker). She was named one of the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the Year in 1999 due to her accomplishments. In addition, she was awarded the award in 2000. Orange County Athlete of the Award for volleyball. Ross and Klineman may have begun working together in the year 2017, however Ross was already an established volleyball player before they teamed up. The American has been a major winner in events twice, with various partners. A couple of those has become an icon in the world of volleyball. The pair teamed along with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and was also Klineman's personal trainer. Kessy was Ross's teammate at the World Championships in 2009. The pair eventually picked up a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor clinched gold overtaking them. Ross Walsh was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. They went on to compete for the bronze beach volleyball medal at the Rio Olympics 2016 with Walsh Jennings. Ross participated in the USC Trojans in the college years following her graduation from the high school she attended. The time she spent in the Trojans' ranks was an impressive one. In 2000, she was named Pac-10 Freshman as well as NCAA Freshman of the Year. She was also named an All-American. She also helped the Trojans to make it to the Final Four. She endured a great personal loss during her sophomore year, yet was capable of achieving the All-American award. Through her last two years as a player, she led the Trojans up to the top of the mountain netting consecutive national championships. In her own way Ross established her status in the history books by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This award was given to the most outstanding female college volleyball players in the nation. Ross was an international relations major at USC. Unfortunately Ross mom Margie never got to see Ross rise to the top levels of beach volleyball fame. Ross's mom passed away due to breast cancer when she was in her sophomore year at USC. She continues to hold her lost parent near and dear. Margie is a source of inspiration both in her personal life and at the beach.
